We’ve come to our final year of the ‘what if’ question. The 2009-10 season posed the last realistic chance we would get of a Kobe vs LeBron NBA Finals, but again we were left in disappointment and wonder. Once again the stage was set, LeBron (30/7/9 on 50%) led the way to his second MVP and led the Cavs to another 1 seed in the East going 61-21, the best record in the NBA. On the other side, Kobe (27/5/5 on 45%) led the Lakers to the 1 seed in the West with a record of 57-25. Take care of business in the respective conferences and we get our Kobe vs LeBron NBA Finals, but sometimes we don’t get what we want. The Cavs were setup with a 2008 rematch against the Celtics after beating the Bulls in 5 games. Cleveland was able to win 2 of the first 3 games of the series to go up 2-1, but the Celtics rattled off 3 wins in a row to win the series in 6, ending LeBron’s first run in Cleveland and ending our chances at a Kobe vs LeBron Finals. The Lakers would end up playing the Celtics in the 2010 NBA Finals and were able to beat them in 7 games to win the title. But what if the Cavs got past Boston, then Orlando and we got the Cavs vs Lakers Finals we always wanted, what would’ve happened? Once again I think the Lakers win the series, I think they had the better team, Kobe vs LeBron would’ve been epic, but the Lakers had a better team. For that reason I picked LA, Lakers in 6.
